You need to be careful when choosing new windows for your bathroom. Here are factors that should be considered when choosing new bathroom windows.

How to Choose New Bathroom Windows

Glass Area

Bathroom windows should allow as much natural light as possible. Choosing replacement windows for the bathroom actually takes more work than new construction as you have to choose new windows that allow for the largest glass area possible. Replacing two or more adjoining windows with one large window can be done, provided it doesn’t compromise the wall support structure.

Alternatively, consider replacement windows with durable frames made of composite, reinforced vinyl or a similar material, which allow manufacturers to offer slimmer frames. This may sound like a small change, but even a difference of a fraction of an inch in frame thickness, at all four sides, can significantly increase the window glass area.

Privacy

It goes without saying that privacy is an important consideration in bathroom design. When designing a bathroom with a renovation contractor, the windows can be positioned where its sightlines won’t let people walking by see inside.

If window sightlines can’t be improved upon without making major changes to the exterior wall, you can control bathroom privacy with the right window treatment, of which there are thousands of options. Many people recommend sheer curtains for balancing natural light with privacy; however, it doesn’t always work in all bathroom designs. Other options like Roman blinds or drapes as well as rigid window treatments like plantation shutters deserve your consideration.

Ventilation

Despite a good indoor ventilation system, you need bathroom windows that can be opened when you need to flush excess heat, humidity and odors. This means your bathroom needs to have at least one operable window. In addition to allowing fresh air into the bathroom, operable window styles help reduce the workload on the dehumidifiers and the ventilation system.
