The Different Ways a Storm Can Damage Your Roof

Water Damage

Storms can cause floods that soak your foundation, interior and basement. In addition, heavy rain can seep through cracks in your roofing system and damage it. Water can saturate the underlayment and roof decking, causing them to deteriorate and allowing leaks to form. Even a small crack in your shingles can allow water to penetrate your roof, so we recommend scheduling regular inspection to head off such problems.

Wind Damage

Strong winds can cause significant storm damage to your roof. For example, it can send a tree branch flying and crashing into your shingles. This can cause your shingles to crack and can even open a hole in your roof. Wind can also blow off your shingles, particularly if your roof wasn’t initially installed correctly. Inspect your roof with a pair of binoculars after a storm, and call us if you see even a few missing shingles so we can prevent further damage.

Hail Damage

Hail is formed when water in the upper atmosphere has solidified into chunks of ice. Since they are rock hard and fall from a great height, hailstones can cause significant damage to a roof. Hail can cause old and low-quality shingles to crack, eventually leading to the formation of roof leaks. To avoid hail damage, make sure to install a roof that has Class IV impact resistance.
