Flat roofs are a great option for commercial properties because they require less material to cover the same area compared to high-pitched roofs. However, you need to know what type of flat roof to choose for your property if you want to get the most value out of it. One of the leading roofing contractors in the area is here to give you a rundown on the most popular options.

Choosing the Right Flat Roof for Your Home

Concrete

This type of flat roofing is primarily made of concrete mixture poured evenly over an area. Metal bars are used to reinforce the structure. Concrete roofs are versatile as they are often strong enough that they also double as a deck or possible addition in the future. However, they are heavier than other types of roofs.

EPDM

Ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) roofing, also known as rubber membrane roofing, is a popular option for commercial roof installation because it is lightweight and easy to install. EPDM sheets are rolled out the roof area and secured in place with a combination of adhesives and mechanical fasteners. While not as durable as concrete roofs, EPDM is affordable and relatively easier to repair.

BRM

Reinforced bitumen membrane roofing is similar to EPDM roofing, but it features a top layer of asphalt which more closely resembles the top surface of asphalt shingle roofing. This type of roofing is even cheaper than EPDM roofing, which is perfect for those on a limited budget. However, it does require more maintenance compared to the previous roofing options.

GRP

Glass reinforced plastic (GRP) roofing is made of fiberglass, the same stuff used for making boat hulls. GRP roofs are expensive, but lightweight and extremely durable. If maintained well, GRP can outlast most flat roofing options, provided you can get over the high initial cost.
