Storm damage sometimes can happen when you least expect it – you might think it’s just normal rain when in fact it’s already cascading into your roof’s interior components. If the storm is also particularly strong, it could entirely collapse the roof or affect its supporting structures, necessitating emergency leaking roof repair.

But dealing with storm damage is not as a big of a deal as you might think – that is if you follow the ABCs of storm damage repair.

Addressing Storm Damage Is as Easy as A-B-C

A Is for Assess

Right after the storm passes, assess the damage to your roof. You don’t have to climb to your roof to do so; you can simply use a pair of binoculars to inspect damage from the ground. Note areas in particular that are out of place, such as protruding or torn-off sections of wood or patches of missing shingles. Take a picture of these spots if you can so you can have additional leverage when it comes to claiming roof insurance; most roofing companies would also appreciate documentation this way.

B Is for Begin Roof First Aid

When the coast is clear, you can begin your first aid to minimize further damage to your roof. For example, if the roof and/or ceiling is leaking, you can place a bucket underneath it. If the leak is widespread, tarp the affected areas so you can guide the water and collect the runoff in one area, preventing flooding everywhere at once. You can also move valuable furniture and appliances away from where water could damage them.

C Is for Call a Roofing Company

Finally, once you’ve done all that you could, waste no time in calling your trusted roofing contractors for emergency repair. They’d be able to make a more accurate assessment of the situation and recommend a way out of the mess.
